Elmer R. Schwendiman

Elmer Rudolph Schwendiman 98  of Newdale, Idaho, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Oct. 21, 2008 in the Ashton Living Center.

Elmer was born Sept. 23, 1910 at Teton City, Idaho the son of Rudolph and Clara Francis Hodgson Schwendiman. He grew up in the Newdale area where he attended his elementary schooling.  He also attended Sugar - Salem  and Madison High School.   He was active in farming and ranching all of his life.

He married his sweetheart Barbara Cutler on Apr. 5, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.   They rented a farm east of Newdale and soon bought one near there.  It was here they raised their family.  Elmer was a active member of the LDS Church serving in many capacities including serving as ward clerk for 19 years under two bishops.  He and his wife filled a Idaho Falls  LDS Temple Mission in l947.  Barbara died Nov. 7, 1998.  Elmer continued to live in Newdale where he enjoyed raising a garden and taking care of his yard until a couple of years ago.

Elmer is survived by his Children Val (Diane) Schwendiman, Dean (Shirlene) Schwendiman both of Newdale, Shirley Ann (Doug) Hillman, St. George, UT.; Ruth Clarke, Buchanon, Georgia; a son in law Robert Barnes, Lewisville, ID.; siblings- Reed (Florence) Schwendiman, Bremerton, WA.; Wayne (Verla) Schwendiman, Connell, WA.;  Melvin (Faye) Schwendiman, Newdale, ID.; Lucile (Berlin) Osborn, Menan, ID.;  Donna Labrum, Twin Falls, ID.;  29 Grandchildren, 83 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.    Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter  Kay Francis Barnes, one grandson Dan R. Schwendiman two sisters, Madeline and Clara.

Funeral services  will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newdale LDS Church with Bp. Larid Dee Robinson, Officiating.  Friends may call at the Newdale LDS Church Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and at the Newdale LDS Church Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 just prior to the services.  Burial  will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery under the direction of the Bidwell Funeral Home.
