   Darrel E. “Gib” Gibson 89, died Jan. 13, 2009 in the Rexburg Nursing Home.

Mr. Gibson ws born Dec. 25, 1919 at Mound City, MO. the son of J.W. and Hattie Viola Gould Gibson. He grew up and attended his schooling in the Mound City area. At a very early age he learned to play the fiddle and base guitar. He played in many of the top bands in the western united states.

He married Zola Stevens in 1938 at Newdale, ID. Shortly after their marriage Mr. Gibson was drafted into the Army during WW11 serving in Japan. They lived in Newdale and Los Gatos, CA. for many years. Gib worked as general building contractor but mostly as a rock and brick mason. He also was a saddle maker, a airplane pilot, and a ham radio operator # KO7L. While in California he served as Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose for 7 years. Zola died in 1984.

He married Shirley Horst in 1984 at Newdale where they have since resided.

Gib is survived by his wife Shirley , a son Douglas ( Sandra) Gibson and a daughter DeAnn (Stephen) Reish all of Newdale, 4 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren, a brother Rodney O. (Doreen) Gibson, San Jose, CA. and a sister Elma Carder, Ashton, ID.; Besides his parents and wife he was preceded in death by 3 brothers Kenneth, Edwin, and Jimmie Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newdale LDS Church with Bishop Larid Robinson, officiating. Friends may call at the Newdale Church Monday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and also Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Madison Co. Burial Team.
