   Mary Johanna Hathaway Carter of 98 years, a former resident of St. Anthony died Jan. 7, 2009 in the Gables Assisted Living Center in Ammon, ID.

Mary was born Apr. 18, 1910 at Chester, Idaho the daughter of Robert Henry Hathaway and Johanna Fredricka Johnson Hathaway. She grew up in the Chester area attending school in Chester.

She married Ray Ervin Carter on June 13, 1929 in Idaho Falls. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple in 1989. They made their home in St. Anthony for over 70 years. After Mr. Carter’s death, she continued to live in St. Anthony until 9 years ago when she moved to Idaho Falls to be near her daughter.

Mary worked at the St. Anthony Seed houses when she was younger. She also worked at the dry cleaners and did alterations for Blocks Clothing Store. She also owned a sewing shop in St. Anthony called ‘”Mary’s”

Mary is survived by one daughter Gwen Monson, of Idaho Falls, five Grandchildren, sixteen Great Grandchildren and fourteen Great Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Ramona Schwarze, Boise, ID.; and Erla (Dean) Daw, St. Anthony. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, Don and Larry , six brothers and four sisters and a son-in-law Thayle Monson.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Bidwell Funeral Home with Craig Adamson, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Ashton Pineview Cemetery. A special thanks to the Gables of Ammon Assisted Living Center and the Creekside Hospice.
