  Merrill Jean Greenhalgh 71, died March 18, 2010 at her home in Salem following a lingering illness.

Jean was born July 24, 1938 at Chester, Idaho the daughter of Floyd Merrill Hathaway and Helen Eugenie Collett Hathaway. She grew up on a dairy farm in Chester where she and her sister learned to work hard milking the cows. She attended her elementary schooling in Chester and graduated from South Fremont High School in l956. She also attended one year at Ricks College.

She married Noel J. Greenhalgh on Aug. 6, 1958 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Her husband worked in construction so they moved quite often. They first lived in Madison Junction of Yellowstone Park, then Arco, then back to Chester in l966 where they lived until they moved to the Salem area in 1989 where they have since resided.

She was a member of the LDS Church holding many positions including singing in the Choir. She enjoyed playing trombone in the band on the 24th July parade She enjoyed reading, gardening, nature and especially her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Noel J. Greenhalgh, Salem Children Ryan (CoraLee) Greenhalgh, Rexburg, ID.; Annette (Tim) Miller, Chester,ID.; Todd (Corie) Greenhalgh, Rigby, ID.; Audra (Glade) Mason, Salem, ID.; and Chris (Karen) Greenhalgh, Star, ID. two sisters Colette (Varro) Clark, Gilbert AZ.; and Marsha (Mel) Krieger, Munds Park AZ.; 22 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Salem Third LDS Ward Chapel with Bp. Bart Lynn, officiating. Friends may call at the Bidwell Funeral Home in St. Anthony, Monday from 7 to 8:00 p.m. and at the Salem Church Tuesday one hour prior to the Services. Burial will be in the Chester Cemetery.
