Mary Agnes Christiansen

   Mary Agnes Riggs Christiansen, 83, a longtime resident of Ashton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010 at the home of her daughter in Meridian, ID.

Mary was born July 3, 1927 in Teton City, ID. the daughter of Iris Nancy Simpson and Albert Smith Riggs. She was the 7th of 9 children. Mary attended school at Teton Elementary and Madison High School. She had a lot of fun growing up with all her brothers and sisters playing games and working hard on the farm.

She married Kenneth Perry Carter on July 25, 1946. They had two daughters. They were later divorced. She then married Donald J. Christiansen on Aug. 17, 1951. They had two sons.

Mary worked for many years in the Ashton City Drug. She made the best milkshakes in town. She also worked for Loosli Elevators during grain harvest. She gave all the farmers a hard time, making sure their barley made the grade. She loved to tease them and had a lot of fun every year at harvest time. Mary enjoyed playing cards, visiting with many wonderful friends she had in Ashton. She loved to bowl and played on a league for many years. She enjoyed cooking, especially during the holidays. She also enjoyed traveling with her daughters and had a great love of romance novels. Don died May 20, 1990.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Lee Burnett (significant other Rick Roy) and Dell Rae Rankin (significant other Richard Hubbs) all of Meridian, ID.; Donald Scott (Linda) Christiansen, Mt. Sterling, Illinois and Kelly J. (Annette) Christiansen , Idaho Falls, ID. one brother Jack (Joyce) Riggs, Menan, ID.; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Don Rankin. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ashton 4th LDS Ward Chapel (located near the cemetery) with Bishop James Hawkes. Friends may call at the Bidwell Funeral Home in St. Anthony Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the Ashton 4th ward Saturday from 10:00 - 10:45 just prior to the services. Burial will be in the Pineview Cemetery in Ashton, ID.
