Ralph Daniel "RD" Miller


   Ralph Daniel “RD” Miller 87, a longtime resident of Chester, ID. died May 8, 2010 at the Madison Memorial Hospital from a heart attack.

RD was born Aug. 14, 1922 at Parker, Idaho the son of Ralph and Cora Elizabeth Knight Miller. He grew up in the Parker area where he attended his elementary schooling. He also attended South Fremont High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 1945 and was honorably discharged in Dec. of 1946 at the rank of a Staff Sergeant.

He married Darlene Potter on Sept. 4, 1947 at her parents home in Chester. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Feb. 16, 1951. RD was a member of the LDS Church. He served in the Elders Quorum Presidency.

He operated a dairy farm in Chester and was still milking cows until the age of 84. He also raised sheep, cattle, seed potatoes and grain. He served as Pres. of the Chester Canal co. and for a couple of years worked at the Railroad Ranch in Island Park. RD enjoyed cutter racing, Rodeos and story telling.

He is survived by his wife Darlene of Chester, Children - Linda Miller, Verl (Candy) Miller, and Tim (Annette) Miller all of Chester, and Sharon (Jay Fred) Smith, Rexburg, ID. 22 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildr one sister Ruth (Henry) Fan Den Hazel, Centerville, UT.,and one sister-in-law LaDell Miller of Parker, ID. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Victor, Alfred, Raymond, and two sisters Dorothy Caplinger and Janet Cox, one son and one Granddaughter.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 14, 2010 at 12 noon in the Ashton LDS Stake Center with Bishop Gordon Williams of the Chester LDS Ward officiating. Friends may call at the Bidwell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. and at the Ashton Stake center Friday from 10:45 to 11:45 just prior to the services. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery where military rites will be preformed by the St. Anthony V.F.W. and American Legion posts.
