Alvin L. Davidson

   Alvin Lorenzo Davidson 92, of Sugar City passed away Sat. Jan. 9, 2013 at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in St. Anthony.

Alvin was born Nov. 27. 1920 in Iona, Idaho the son of Arland Lorenzo and Sarah Elizabeth Pearce Davidson. He was raised in Darby and Delynn Id. as a child. The family moved to Parker then Egin. He graduated from Edmonds High School in l939.

He farmed with his father and in l940 served a LDS Mission to the Western States Mission which included, Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado. After his release he decided to join the Merchant Marines. His reasoning was he would not have to shoot anyone. The Merchant Marines delivered grain and supplies to places such as Panama, Belgium, Amsterdam, New York, Hawaii and California. He loved the time he spent on Ships. Honorably discharged in Apr. 24, 1946.

On March 15, 1945 he married Clara Elvena Salerno in the Cardston Alberta, Canada LDS Temple.

After his release from the military he and Clara returned to Egin Bench, ID. They farmed with his family and built a log home to live in. In 1950 he and his father purchased 40 acres and he built a new brick home that they moved into just before the Christmas of l957. They finished raising their family there for 58 years.

They moved to Sugar City in 2002. They had it built to their desires. Clara passed away in 2005. Alvin continued to live there until 2012 when he moved into the Homestead Living Center in St. Anthony.

Alvin was a active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings. He and Clara served two missions, -Lake Tahoe Mission and Jackson Mississippi. When they got home from their last mission they were called as Temple Workers in the Idaho Falls Temple for 10 years.

He loved to invent things to make work easier. He loved woodworking, writing poems, and most of all studying the scriptures and church material. He was an avid reader.

He is survived by his children: Linda K. Hemsley, Sugar City, ID.; Carol J. (Tom) Purcell, Rexburg, ID.; Clarlyn (Ralph) Sexton, Marietta, Georgia; Paul A. Davidson, Rick A. (Wanda) Davidson both of Idaho Falls, ID. a sister Anna Adams. St. George, UT.; a Brother Myrl (Eva)) Davidson, Aberdeen, ID.; 12 grandchildren, 22 great Grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Lisa, a grandson John, Sisters, Thelma White, Blanche Christensen, Ethel Lords and a brother Hyrum.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday Feb. 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sugar City 7th LDS Ward on 6 north Teton in Sugar City. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 at the Bidwell Funeral Home and at the church in Sugar City Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 just prior to the services. Interment will be in the Parker Cemetery where a military flag service will be presented.
