  Crystal Dean Josephson Gardner, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away at the age of 93, Friday Mar. 13, 2015, in St. George, UT from natural causes.

Crystal was born March 27, 1921, at Iona, Idaho the daughter of Hilda Rhodehouse Josephson and Isaac Versal Josephson She joined two brothers, with two more brothers and one sister to follow.

Her childhood was spent on the family farm in Egin, Idaho, where she learned the value of hard work and the importance of family ties. Her family enjoyed camping, huckleberrying, and gathering wood for winter. They used their imaginations to create their own entertainment.

She attended school at Heman Grade School, Sugar Salem High School and Ricks College, where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduation she taught grade school for three years in Heman. She was also the principal for one year and the janitor for two year, all while continuing to teach. Her assignment was to teach all eight, elementary grades together. Between semesters at Ricks College, she worked supporting the war effort, in the munitions factory in Salt Lake City, UT.

She met a handsome soldier boy John Anthony “Dip” Gardner, at a wedding dance in Teton , Idaho. They married Apr. 14, 1945, in Malad, ID. They were one of the first couples to be sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on Dec. 5, 1945, the day the temple opened.

Over the years, they owned and operated several successful businesses in and around St. Anthony. She supported Dip in his business and civic responsibilities, which included accompanying him as he sang at many public events. They were blessed to be able to travel extensively as well, which Mother thoroughly enjoyed.

Her hobbies included family, sewing, cooking, and music. She was a member of the Mello-Daires, local women’s singing group for many years. As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in many stake and ward callings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Donna Steiner, three brothers, Ray, Wayne, and Ronald, two daughters, Wana Bloom and Konie Pipes, and one daughter -in-law, Vickie Gardner.

Survivors include her husband of almost 70 years, John Anthony “Dip” Gardner, her children, Sharla Galbraith, Ammon, ID. Kim Gardner, Mapleton, UT. Toni (Jon) Crapo, St. Anthony, ID. and Kris (Mike) Sturm, Ashton, ID her brother Boyd (Mabel) Josephson, Egin, ID. and 17 Grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Anthony LDS Stake Center with Bishop Chris Tucker of the St. Anthony Third Ward officiating. Friends may call at the Bidwell Funeral Home Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. and at the church Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
