Dyle B. Peterson

Dyle B. Peterson was born May 5, 1919, in Driggs, Idaho, the second son of Hyrum Benjamin and Agnes Frida Hedwig Schmidt Peterson. He attended elementary school in Teton City, ID. In fact, when he was a teenager, Dyle worked with other men in the community to lay the hardwood flooring in the current Teton Elementary School. He graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg. Dyle loved the out-of-doors, and worked hard helping his father farm and raise sheep. He especially loved spending time in the mountains, helping herd sheep on the summer range northeast of Ashton, ID. He had a great sense of humor, a dry wit, an engaging smile, and loved to teach all that he knew to his children, grandchildren, and those around him.

Dyle married Ila Singleton on March 15, 1943, in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Rexburg Temple. They lived their entire married life in the Wilford area where they had a farm and ranching operation. Dyle also raised grain dry-farming south of Newdale. They are the parents of eight children. Mrs. Peterson died July 17, 2000.

Dyle was an active member of the community. He served as a leader of the Wool Growers’ Association, the Farm Bureau Organization, and the Fall River Rural Canal Company. He supported the local PTA, and was instrumental in helping to establish vocational education programs in the Fremont County school system. He learned by observing the successes of his neighbors, and applied that knowledge to improve his own ranch. Helping a neighbor or aging friend in need was common for Dyle. He could dance well, roller skate and ice skate with the best, and enjoyed floating the Teton River on fishing trips. He stated that after he married, his greatest pleasure was teaching and raising his family.

Dyle passed away on October 21, 2011, in Ashton, ID, at the age of 92. He is survived by a sister, Milris Shook, of Glendale, AZ, his children – Lynette (Lynn) Miles, Mesa, AZ; Gwen (Bill) Hoffmann, Ben (Joy) Peterson, Dena Jo (Earl) Mortensen, all of Wilford, ID; Sharol (Bill) Moore, Albuquerque, NM; Renee (Ron) Freeman, Twin Falls, ID; Tad (Sue) Peterson, Long Beach, CA; Trudy (Brian) Freeman, Logan, UT; 41 Grandchildren, and 80 Great-Grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 1:00 pm at the Wilford LDS Church, 215 N. 2400 E., with Bishop Todd Brower officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 28, 2011, at Bidwell Funeral Home in St. Anthony, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, and Saturday at the church from 12:00 to 12:45pm prior to services. Interment will be in the Wilford Cemetery.
