   Marion Calkins Allen 96, a longtime resident of St. Anthony died Oct. 17, 20011 in the Homestead Assisted living center in St. Anthony from incidents age.

Marion was born July 19, 1915 in Grace, Idaho the son of Lorenzo Preece and Mary Ellen Calkins Allen. He grew up in the Rupert area where he attended his schooling graduating from High School. During high school he joined the U.S. Navy serving during W.W.II being honorably discharged in Nov. of l946.

He married Bessie Bee Champion on Aug. 20, 1937 in Rupert, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 26, 1945.

They lived in Rupert for many years where Marion worked as a farmer, meat cutter, and a custodian for the schools. Here he developed a love for gardening and flowers always having a beautiful yard and garden.

They moved to St. Anthony in l965 where the owned and operated the Fremont Frozen Food Business for many years. Bessie passed away on Oct. 26, 2005.

Marion was very active in the LDS Church serving as Bishop of the 3rd ward for several years. He and his wife served a full time mission to the Nashville-Tennessee Mission in Ellijay, Georgia. They also served as temple workers in the Idaho Falls Temple for 14 years. They also served two work missions, one in Macon Georgia and one in Phoenix, AZ. After Bessie’s death Marion did alot of work at the Family History Center doing genealogy.

Marion is survived by his children - Juanita (Ronald) Fewkes, Sandpoint, ID.; LaDeane (Harvey) Miller, Boise, ID.; EM “Butch” Allen, Idaho Falls, Darell (Sara) Allen, Parker, ID.; Gregory Allen, Verona, WI.; Loren (Susan) Allen, Boise, ID. 15 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren. Siblings- Vilate Allen, Rupert, ID.; Lorenzo “Bud” Allen, Declo, ID.; Alice Spackman, Rupert, ID.; Anna Poppleton, Wellsville, UT.;

Besides his wife and parents Marion was preceded in death by one daughter Billie and one daughter in law Bethanne, three brothers, Lewis, Cecil, Randall, two sisters - Lois and Iris and one grandson - Loren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Anthony 3 rd and 4 th LDS Ward Chapel with Bp. Del Ray Davenport, Officiating. Friends may call at the Bidwell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and at the Church Thursday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Rupert Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 21 2011 at 11:00 a.m. where military rites will be preformed.
