Neal Hughes

   Neal Hughes, 84 of Wilford, Idaho, passed away peacefully in his home, on Tuesday, February, 3rd, 2015, with his wife by his side.  

Neal was on born May 12, 1930 in Teton City son of Rulon and Eva Mace Hughes. He was the oldest of four children. He grew up and attended  Teton Elementary, graduating from South Fremont High School in1948.

He married Joan Mackert, of St.Anthony, in 1949 and they later divorced.  He then married Faun Memmott Sutterfield in1970 at her sister’s home in Kearns, Salt Lake County, Utah. Neal and Faun made their home in Wilford, Idaho and also wintered in Yuma, Arizona for over 20 years.

Neal was a member of theChurch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served two terms as Fremont County Commissioner, and served decades in and as Chairman of the Soil Conservation District, President of the South Fremont Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Area Hospital Board, and was an Inductee in Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2013. He and his wife were honored to be selected as the Grand Marshalls of Fremont County Pioneer Day Celebration in 2009.

He is survived by Wife - Faun Memmott Sutterfield Hughes,of Wilford, Children:  Christy Davis (Mike) of Wilford, Idaho, Randy Hughes (Dana) of Wilford, Idaho, Kim Sutterfield (Arleen) of Elk Grove, California, Kevin Sutterfield (Michelle) of Springville, Utah , Jana Dahl (Jordan) of Mapleton, Utah, Jill Hatch (Lani) of Orem, Utah, JoDee Mickelsen (Al) of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Jeri Rigby (David) of Layton, Utah, 50 Grandchildren, 62 Great Grandchildren.  
He was preceded in Death by his daughter, Shawna Balls (Dave), his  parents, Rulon and Eva Mace Hughes, his sisters, Donna Nelson and Lois Briggs,  brother,  Rex Hughes, daughter-in-law, Paula Sutterfield, son-in-law, Cody Mortensen, grandson, Shane Davis, and great granddaughter, Megan Dahl. 

Neal was a lifelong resident of Fremont County, and spent his entire life in agriculture - including farming and ranching.  He loved his view from his home and farm of the Grand Tetons and the beautiful benches of east Wilford.  Among his many talents were managing a large farming operation.  He was loyal to the local merchants and enjoyed relationships with many  friends.  He believed in service to his community.  After the Teton Dam flood, he dedicated his life to restore devastated property, including creating what is fondly called, "Paradise Pond," enjoyed by family and close friends.  

The family wishes to extend their thanks to Encompass Home Health and Hospice and Valley Help at Home for their generous service.

Funeral Services will be held at the Wilford Ward LSD Church House, on Saturday, February 7th, at 12 noon.  Family visitation will be held at the same location from 6:00-8:00 on Friday February 6th, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Interment will be in the Wilford Cemetery under the direction of the Bidwell Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to
