Ray S. Baker

   Raymond Siddoway Baker, 87, a lifelong resident of the area - passed away on June 29, 2011 in Bountiful, UT. from incident to age.

Ray was born Oct. 23, 1923 to Ward Bassett and Emma Siddoway Baker. He attended school in Teton and then graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg. Growing up he learned the value of hard work from his parents as they worked together taking care of a band of sheep and running the family farm.

Ray had the opportunity to attend Ricks College for a year and it was there the he met the love of his life, Nelda Hebdon. They were married on June 29, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their first home on the family farm north of Newdale and Ray continued his involvement with the farm as his life’s work. In later years they moved back to Teton.

Over the years Ray and Nelda welcomed seven children into their family. Ray was a devoted husband and father and often had his wife or some of his children by his side as the ran the farm. He was always an example of hard work, honesty and integrity.

Ray was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions of responsibility over the years including Bishop and High Counselor. He also served a term as mayor of Teton.

Ray is survived by his wife, Nelda, his children, Wayne (Kay) Baker, Teton, ID.; Marsha (Dennis) Phillips, St. Anthony, ID.; Max (Kathryn) Baker, Bountiful, UT.; Phil (Valerie) Baker, Teton, ID>; Marc (Ruth) Baker, American Fork, UT.; Julie (Dee) Mackliet, Farmington , UT.; 34 grandchildren , 60 great grandchildren and a nephew Jim (Faye) Thompson. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter Cheryl and a nephew Gordon Thompson.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Teton LDS Church with Bp. Craig Carter, Officiating. Friends may call at the Bidwell Funeral Home Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the Church Tuesday one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery. The family request that donations be made to the Primary Children's Medical Center in Ray’s memory.
